MP Dr. Kellie Leitch Celebrates International Women’s Day

“Today, I am happy to celebrate International Women’s Day. This occasion provides Canadians with the opportunity to appreciate the women in our lives and celebrate their achievements and their extraordinary potential.

Today reminds us all of the vital contribution that women make every day to the economic life of our country. It also highlights the importance of ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to help create prosperity for themselves and their families.

I am proud that during my time as Minister of Status of Women, I was able to play a key role in passing legislation that improved the status and rights of Aboriginal women, children, and families. I was also a strong voice in advocating for violence against women and girls and founded the Girl and Young Women’s Advisory Council.

This International Women’s Day, I invite all Canadians to join us in celebrating the outstanding contributions of all Canadian women who support their families, enrich their communities, and contribute to making Canada a great place to live. When women succeed, Canada succeeds.”
